Deputy Inspector General

Peter Sima-Eichler

Mr. Peter Sima-Eichler joined the Architect of the Capitol (AOC) as the Deputy Inspector General in April 2026. In this role he is responsible for supporting the Inspector General in providing independent oversight of AOC programs and operations through investigations, audits, evaluations, and other oversight operations designed to detect and prevent fraud, waste, and abuse. He also provides leadership and recommendations to promote economy, efficiency, and effectiveness and keeps the AOC and Congress fully informed of significant problems and deficiencies affecting agency programs and operations.

Prior to joining the AOC, Peter held various leadership roles in the Inspector General community, most recently serving as the Acting Deputy Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Office of Inspector General (OIG). In this role, he partnered with the Inspector General to oversee more than $200 billion in annual federal funding for critical programs, including food and nutrition assistance, crop and livestock insurance, animal welfare, and grant and loan programs that support farmers, ranchers, businesses, and rural communities. He also oversaw criminal investigations related to animal fighting, nutrition program fraud, crop insurance fraud, food safety, and agroterrorism.

Under his leadership, USDA OIG conducted impactful work that supported program integrity, addressed control weaknesses, and combatted fraud, waste, and abuse. During FY 2025 alone, USDA OIG issued 62 audit and inspection products, published three public analytics reports, and had investigative outcomes of 459 arrests, 257 indictments, and 191 convictions. This work yielded a monetary impact of over $1.2 billion.

Within the Inspector General community, Peter serves as the Chair of the Data Analytics Working Group for the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE). In that role, he coordinates analytics efforts across the community, recently piloting a shared CIGIE analytics center and developing best practices for data sharing.

Peter joined the federal oversight community in 2009 as a Presidential Management Fellow at the Department of Commerce OIG. Since then, he has served as the Director of Data Analytics for the Department of Commerce OIG, the Director of Data Analytics for Department of the Interior OIG, and the Assistant Inspector General for Analytics and Innovation for USDA OIG.

Outside of his federal service, Peter worked in monitoring and evaluation at the World Bank, taught statistics as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University, and founded and ran an analytics business. Peter holds a PhD and a Master of Public Policy from Georgetown University and a bachelor’s degree from Boston College.
